Mildred Lawfer Wilson, age 102, daughter of Alfred W. Lawfer and Katie Brobst Lawfer, died on April 29, 2016. Mildred was very fortunate to have many years in her life, but what others will always remember, is how much life she put into her many years. She always lived life with great enthusiasm, determination, and resiliency, and she will be remembered by all who knew her as a caring and positive role model. Mildred graduated in 1931 from South Whitehall High School, where she was class valedictorian, senior class president, and editor of the school newspaper. She went on to West Chester to receive her teaching diploma, and also took education classes at Kutztown and Penn State. Mildred was a dedicated elementary school teacher in the Parkland School District for 32 ½ years. Mildred loved teaching and believed in the immeasurable possibilities of every child she taught. In 1939, Mildred married Robert J. Wilson, a coach and teacher at Parkland High School. Mildred and her husband had 61 years together before he passed in 2000. Mildred was a member of The United Church of Christ in Greenawalds all her life and taught many years of Sunday School and summer Bible School. Mildred also served on the Board of the Greenawalds United Church of Christ Day Nursery from 1979 to 1993. Mildred was a former member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Miller Blood Bank after her retirement from teaching. She was a former member of the Allentown Art Museum and of the Allentown Women’s Club. Mildred also was a member of both state and national teachers’ organizations.
Mildred is survived by three daughters: Kay Brady of FL, wife of Rupert Ziawinski; Nancy Feaver of Allentown; and Peggy Beck of FL and ME, wife of Norbert Beck. She is survived by eight grandchildren: Charles Brady, Christopher Brady, Kelly Brady Mendola, Kate Clower, Aaron Feaver, Amy Feaver, Emily Beck Waters and Sarah Beck Dellomo. She is also survived by ten great grandchildren.
