Edward Dallas Richards, 75, of North Whitehall Twp., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Monday, September 5, 2016. He was the husband of Betty Jo (Whitehair) Richards to whom he was married to for 56 years. Born in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Carl and Viola (Weingartner) Richards. At an early age, he and his family moved to Eastlake, OH. After graduation from North High School, Ed became a manager for the Diamond Bros. Men’s Clothing Store. In 1963, he started his career as a Financial Advisor. Even though the name of the company changed over the years, he remained with the same organization for 53 years. At his passing, he was the managing partner with Richards, Meli and Associates, a financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc., Allentown. He received many awards over the years which included serving on the President’s Advisory Council. In 1992, he was the recipient of the prestigious “Hall of Fame” award. His clients were not just clients – they were also his friends. Ed was a board member of the Wildlands Conservancy, a former board member of the Liberty Bell Shrine, past President of the former Allentown Exchange Club and a long term member of the West End Racquetball Club. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, where he served as an Elder. In 1976, he participated in the Reenactment of bringing a replica of the Liberty Bell, along with other church bells, from Philadelphia to Allentown’s Zion Reformed United Church of Christ. The journey was to ensure the safe keeping of the Liberty Bell. Dressed in period costume and riding his favorite horse, he accompanied the wagon train on the week long ride to Allentown. The reenactors camped under the stars each night. Ed loved and treasured his family, his horses, sailing, biking and riding ATVs in West Virginia.
