Master Sergeant (Retired) Ronald M. Eckert, 85, of Allentown died Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Whitehall Manor. He was the husband of Madeline F. (Mansell) Eckert. They celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on September 11, 2016. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late C. Harry and Annette (Mintz) Eckert. He was a 1949 graduate of Allentown High School. Ronald began a career in 1952 at Food Fair, which later became Pantry Pride. He was a manager working in Allentown, Bethlehem and Phillipsburg, NJ until the company moved south in 1979. He then worked as a manager at the former Two Guys and Penn Supreme. In 1988, he began working in the shipping and receiving department of Day Timers, Inc., East Texas retiring in 1998. Ronald began a 24 year career with the Pennsylvania National Guard as a high school senior on June 21, 1948. A member of the 213th Artillery Regiment, he attained the rank of Master Sergeant and retired on June 21, 1972. He has served on the 213th Regiment Board of Directors from 1997 to 2000, the Dinner Committee, the Regimental Museum Committee and as the Regimental Librarian. He was a member and volunteered in the kitchen at Jordan United Church of Christ, Allentown. Ronald treasured his family and loved animals. He was a World War II buff and had an extensive library of World War II material.

Survivors: Wife; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” wife of Richard Driscoll of Schnecksville; son, Christopher Eckert and his wife Kristi Jo of Shippensburg; sisters, Fae Erney of Macungie, Sylvia Hafer of Whitehall; beloved grandchildren, Logan and Jossalyn Eckert; nieces; nephews. He was predeceased by siblings, Dawn Wertman and John Eckert.

Funeral Service 2:00PM Friday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Call 1 to 2:00PM Friday in the funeral home.
