Gloria M. Bernecker, 81, of Allentown died Friday, December 9, 2016 in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. She was the wife of Richard A. Bernecker with whom she celebrated 59 years of marriage on May 18, 2016. Born in Zionsville, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Beatrice (Kuhns) Rothenberger and the step-daughter of the late Arthur Berry. A 1953 graduate of Allentown High School, Gloria was a customer service representative at the former Lehigh Valley Trust, Allentown. Gloria put aside a promising career to become a full time mother when her beloved daughter, Michele was born. After Michele married and had children of her own, Gloria became a loving “Mom-Mom” to her grandchildren. She enjoyed caring for them and would often be seen attending their dance recitals and sporting events. Family was her life and she was so proud of them. She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Allentown.

Survivors: Husband; daughter, Michele K. wife of Brian D. Moyer of Lenhartsville; grandchildren, Kailen M. Moyer and Garrett B. Moyer of Lenhartsville; siblings, Marie wife of Robert Walbert of Macungie and Warren Rothenberger, Jr. of Coplay; brother-in-law, Frederick H. Bernecker, Jr. and his wife Frances of Macungie; nephews; nieces. An infant daughter and brothers, Clarence Rothenberger and Raymond Rothenberger predeceased her.

Funeral Service 11:00AM Wednesday in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Calling hour 10 to 11:00AM Wednesday in the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to join the family at 2:00PM Wednesday at the Brass Rail, 3015 Lehigh St., Allentown to celebrate Gloria’s life with fellowship and remembrance.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s memory to “Penn State Dance Marathon”, ATTN: Finance, THON Office, 227D HUB, University Park, PA 16802 (Place “Berks 77” in memo on check) or online to donate.thon.org and put Berks as organization. The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is a yearlong fundraising effort with one goal in mind to eliminate childhood cancer. The yearlong event culminates with a dance marathon in February which Gloria’s beloved granddaughter, Kailen was extremely excited to be chosen to participate in.
