Marlene Alice (Nixon) Merz, 79, of Allentown went to her Glory on Sunday, January 29, 2017. Born in Bryn Mawr, she was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Florence A. (Knoller) Nixon. A graduate of Moravian College, Marlene received her Master’s Degree in Education from Lehigh University and a Graduate certificate in Administration from Temple University. She dedicated herself to helping others. Her work at Lehigh County Crisis Intervention and at Daybreak in Allentown offered support to many. Her caring continued by serving the social needs of her community, both near and far through her gifts of support and time. She especially loved the opportunity to serve in Malawi. She very much enjoyed singing with her church choirs, volunteering, artistic pursuits in painting, participating in drama productions, travels to the shore and mountains and especially entertaining her grandchildren. Her lively spirit lifted many and will be missed by all.

Survivors: Her memory will be cherished by her loving family; Sons, Steven Merz and his wife Lisa, Marshall Merz and his wife Wendy, Scott Merz and his wife Julie, Matthew Merz and his wife Cindy; grandchildren, Braden Boyd, Jessica Merz, Kelsey Boyd, Scott Merz, David Merz, Paige Merz, Casey Merz, Elizabeth Merz, Mckenna Merz, Steven Merz and countless friends.

A Celebration of Marlene’s Life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, February 4, 2017 in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church, 3231 W. Tilghman St., Allentown. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in Fellowship Hall at the church. A Private interment will be held in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the charity of one’s choice. Marlene’s family wishes to thank her church family, her loving friends and her caregivers for their support.
