Jack David Smith

Jack David Smith, 82, of Catasauqua, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 in Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Virginia M. "Ginny" (Moll) Smith. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Benjamin T. and Ruth E. (Miller) Smith. Jack was employed for 34 years at the H.N. Crowder Company before retiring in 1996. Prior to that, he was employed at Everson Electric for 5 years. He was a member of IBEW Local 375. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War, serving on the flight deck of the Aircraft Carriers USS Bennington and the USS Forrestal. He served on the first crew of the Forrestal and was a plank owner. He later was a crash truck driver at the Naval Air Development Station at Johnsville, PA. After retiring, Jack and his wife Ginny spent 12 years living on their boat in the summer and cruised the Finger Lakes, the Great Lakes and many other areas.

Survivors: Sons, George W. Smith of Ware, MA, Kerry L. Smith of Palmetto, FL and Dennis A. Smith of New Smithville, 10 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren. He was predeceased by Brothers, James R. Smith, Robert B. Smith and William C. Smith and a Sister, Doris M. Smith.
