Alma Verletta Baumgartner, 99 years, 9 months & 7 days of Allentown, has been called by God to come home. She passed peacefully on the evening of May 8, 2017, in her sleep. Alma was the wife of the late Homer F. Baumgartner and they spent the majority of their married life together living in Cetronia. Alma was the oldest of six children and was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Esther V. (Baer) Wieand. Born in Allentown, she was a 1936 graduate of Allentown High School. Alma was an energetic woman who took pride in everything that she did. Whether it was her administrative skills at Mack Trucks or her cooking and entertaining skills with her husband Homer, with whom she celebrated 45 years of marriage, Alma paid attention to the details. She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Lady Hamilton Club, the Lehigh Valley Club, a life member of the Cetronia Ambulance Corp. and while in Cetronia she was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fire Company. She was a remarkable story teller and really enjoyed making people laugh with her jokes. She was passionate about her exercise and lived independently throughout her retirement.

We welcome you to join us in celebrating a life well lived as services will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home 16th and Hamilton Sts in Allentown. Calling hours will begin at 10:00 am with the service to follow at 11:00 am.

Alma was predeceased by her brothers Dalton P., Kenneth A. and Gerald W. Wieand. She is survived by her brother Ray W. Wieand of Allentown and her sister: Ethel G. Frank of Illinois, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Interment will be private.
