Albert D’Argenio,96, of Bethlehem, formerly of Whitehall passed away May 19, 2017. He was the widower of Betty Jane (Hensinger) D’Argenio, who died on December 18, 2016. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on October 5, 2016. Born in Allentown on May 5, 1921, he was the son of the late Antonio and Alphonsina (Corvino) D’Argenio. Along with his brothers, Fedele and Anthony, he entered Girard College, Philadelphia. He completed his high school education at Allentown High School. While a student at Allentown High, he was a member of the swim team and won some medals in the PIAA finals. He was a charter member and former officer of the Alumni Varsity A Club. He received the Distinguished Service Medal from the club in 1963. Al was drafted into the Army in 1943 and assigned to the 572nd AAA battalion. In France, he was assigned to the 12th armored division in the 7th Army. The 572nd AAA battalion was credited with shooting down more enemy aircraft than any other AAA outfit in the 7th Army. He received 3 European Battle Stars. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946. In 1947, he married Betty and they had three children. Albert was the former President of the Garfield PTA. He received the award of merit from the National Girard College Alumni and the distinguished alumni award from Lehigh Valley Alumni. He was honored by being selected to the Girard College Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball. He and his wife hosted students from Girard College in their home for the Christmas holidays over the years. He was a basketball referee. He was a national board member of PIAA. Al was employed at Bethlehem Steel. He also was a concessionaire at Muhlenberg College basketball and football games and the Great Allentown Fair. He owned and operated the former Jordan Park Snack Shop for 22 years. He retired in 1987 as President of the former Joseph Friedman Sons, Bethlehem. He and his wife, Betty were avid sports fans who were lucky enough to see a Rose Bowl game, Fiesta Bowl game and Super Bowl XI.

Survivors: Wife; son, Ronald A. husband of Debra D’Argenio of Laurys Station; daughters, Terry J. wife of John Gallagher of Charlottesville, VA, Karen L. wife of Frank Stoisits of Coplay; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was predeceased by twin brother, Anthony, brother, Fedele and sister, Caroline.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 10 A.M. in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Call Wednesday from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. in the funeral home.
