Mary Karoline Wirth Szukics, 98, of Allentown, passed away June 7, 2017 in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall Township. She was the wife of the late Louis C. Szukics and the late Edward F. Wirth. Mary was a professional seamstress at the former Worth Manufacturing in Allentown until retiring. After retirement, she helped her husband Louis operate the former Amercian/Szukics Hotel in Northampton. In her early 80’s, she enjoyed working the Allentown Fair’s Christmas exhibit in Ag. Hall. Born in Coplay, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Karoline (Dorner) Steinhofer. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Allentown. She was a 1933 graduate of the Manhattan Industrial High School and a 1936 Trade School graduate for high end seamstresses. Sewing was Mary’s passion. With her expertise, Mary made exact doll replicas of her daughter and granddaughter’s wedding ensembles and also the bridesmaids’. A white satin baptism/christening outfit still in perfect condition was worn by her two daughters-75 years ago and later on by her granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. Mary was an active member of the St. Francis Auxiliary, the Alegimeiner, and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Allentown. Mary’s gentleness and smile will be sadly missed.

Survivors: Daughters; Evelyn wife of Harold Wolfer of Gouldsboro, Judith Layton of Allentown and Renae wife of Guy Ritchie of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; 2 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Edward F. Wirth, Jr.; sister, Hermine Schuster and three brothers, John, Frank and Carl Steinhofer.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Catasauqua. There are no calling hours. Arrangements by J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, Allentown.
