Suzanne S. Kratzer, 74, of Allentown died Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in her home with her beloved Bedlington Terrier, Frosty faithfully by her side. She was the widow of former PA State Senator, Rev. Guy M. Kratzer. Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late A. Mark and Catherine B. (Weaver) Schappel. A 1961 graduate of Emmaus High School, Suzanne served as President of both her Junior and Senior Class and served on the class reunion committees including the 50th in 2011. She received her teaching Degree from Muhlenberg College in 1965 and her Master in Education from Temple University. Suzanne’s teaching career began at Central Jr. High School and after 2 years she was appointed the position of 8th grade social studies teacher at Trexler Middle School retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. Suzanne was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, where she had served as an Elder, Deacon, usher and had taught a Bible Discovery Class. For over 20 years, she managed the bulletin board at church which shares the involvement of the parishioners in the surrounding community. Understanding the humanitarian need to help refugees of various countries throughout the world, she actively became involved in the Refugee Ministry at church. Through this ministry she made lasting relationships with several individuals who along with their families became part of Suzanne’s family. They include Biak Tha and family from Burma who now reside in Amarillo, TX; Moses and Mimi Thlenga and their children from Burma who now reside in Allentown; the Chau family from Vietnam and Tawachi Osanit from Thailand. In 2009, with help from her church, Lehigh Valley Presbyterian Church and St. James United Church of Christ and many volunteers, Suzanne founded the annual Martin Luther King Dinner which encouraged congregations and the community to work and fellowship together. She was a member an active participant in the Library Area Neighborhood Association known as LANA. Suzanne and Guy were blessed over the years to be the proud parents of several Bedlington Terriers including their current dog, Meadow Sweet Frosty Spring.

Survivors: Aunt, Lorraine Schappel of Allentown; loving cousins; beloved Bedlington Terrier, Frosty and numerous friends who are like family.

Funeral Service 10:30AM Saturday in the sanctuary of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, 3231 W. Tilghman St., Allentown, PA 18104. Call 9:30 to 10:30AM Saturday in the church.
