Alice J. (Bachman) Johnson Shellhammer, 82 of Whitehall, PA passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, September 20, 2017. She was the wife of the late Darrel H. Shellhammer for 39 years. Born in Butztown she was the daughter of the late Harold Bachman and the late Dorothy (Peters) Bachman. She was employed as an executive and legal secretary for Lutron Electronics, Mack Trucks, Rosenfeld Law Offices, and retired from PA Law Enforcement Officers Association/Firing Line in Coplay. She was a childhood star performing on stage by the age of three with the Municipal Opera Company in NYC and entertained the troops by singing and playing guitar with the USO at the age of five. She loved to dance and to teach dance. She taught as an Arthur Murray dance instructor for many years where one of her favorite students was the famous Max Hess (of Hess's Dept Stores). Her hands were never idle. She either had a paintbrush, knitting needles or rolling pin in them baking her famous homemade cookies. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Everyone lucky enough to be touched by Alice have memories of a spirited, feisty spitfire. She was never one to hide her feelings, and she would go to the ends of the earth for her family. She laughed with many over glasses of wine, cigarettes, and card games. Life was a party for Alice, and as such a party will be thrown in her honor after the memorial service.

Survived by daughter, JacLynne Effting of Whitehall; grandson, Brandon Effting husband of Angela Effting of Whitehall; granddaughter, Holly Blank wife of Adam Blank of Emmaus; great-grandchildren, Darion, Rylen, Reese and Gwendolyn.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 1pm at the Gospel Chapel, 1769 Newport Ave, Northampton, PA 18067 with a celebration following at the Paddock Restaurant, 1945 W. Columbia St., Allentown, PA 18104.
