Ralph D. Romano, Sr., 85, formerly of Bethlehem and Northampton died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 in Holy Family Manor, Bethlehem. He was the husband of the late Eugenia “Jeanne” (Sastorecz) Romano. He was an Area Expediter with The Bechtel Corporation of San Francisco, CA for 24 years retiring in 1998. Previously he was a Project Planning Coordinator with Ingersoll-Rand Company, Phillipsburg, NJ for 18 years. Born in Roseto, he was the son of the late Dominic and Anna (Ruggiero) Romano. A 1950 graduate of Liberty High School, he received an Associate Degree in Engineering from Pennsylvania State University. He was a former member and had served on the consistory at St. John’s United Church of Christ, Howertown. He and his wife had served as youth group leaders at the church. He was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War, having served on the U.S.S. Wasp and as a Plane Captain and Air Crewman based at the Naval Air Station Chincoteague, VA. He was a member and former Post Commander of Harry F.W. Johnson American Legion Post 379, Bethlehem. He was a proud member of their Honor Guard, which provided full honors to deceased Veterans. He has served as the Editor of the U.S.S. Wasp newsletter, “Happy Days and Good Tidings Column” and chaired the U.S.S. Wasp and U.S.S. Hobson Memorial Reunion. Ralph was a past coach at Freemansburg-Bethlehem Township AA and Northampton AA. He was a past Assistant Fire Chief at the Nancy Run Fire Co., Bethlehem Township. He was on the Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees of the Murska Sobota Sister City Association, Bethlehem having served as President and Vice President. He was a life member of the Penn State Alumni Association and Nittany Lion Club. Ralph treasured his family and the time he spent with them.

Survivors: Daughter, Annamarie wife of Bill Zeky of Northampton; sons, Dominic Romano husband of Sue of Northampton, Ralph Romano husband of Lisa of Allentown and Ryan Grube husband of Amy of Lancaster; beloved grandchildren, Billy and his wife Brittany, Nicole, Lindsay, Jesse, Brittany, Cierra, Lucia, Nicholas, Megan and Max. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucy Ruggiero.

Memorial Service 11:00AM Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Call 9:30 to 11:00AM Saturday, March 10, 2018 in the funeral home. Interment will be private with full Military Honors at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
