We share with great sorrow the peaceful passing of Bernice Darcy Browne on December 17, 2018, devoted wife of 48 years to the late James Michael Browne, loving mother of Michael, James, Patrick, Thomas, Jeanmarie, J. Christopher and Marybeth, proud grandmother of Michael, Catherine, James, Joseph, Nicole, Jack, Taylor and Emma Browne, Darcy, Joseph and Milly Wolf, Christopher and Elinor Wallace-Browne and Alex Russoli.

Born in Bayonne, New Jersey on November 18, 1934 to John Darcy and Jean Pettofrezzo, Bernice is survived by one sister, Nora of Madison, New Jersey. Bernice was a 1956 graduate of the Notre Dame College – Staten Island, New York and was one of only three women in the class of 1959 to earn her jurist doctor from Fordham University School of Law. After devoting her full attention to raising her seven children, Bernice returned to the practice of law, passing the Pennsylvania Bar exam at the age of 50 and providing over a decade of distinguished service to the citizens of Lehigh County as an assistant County solicitor. She was a founding parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.

Bernice Browne’s many contributions to the Lehigh Valley community included long time service on the Board of the Lehigh County Bar Association, serving on the Board of Directors of the Allentown YWCA, providing active volunteer service and membership to the Allentown Symphony Association and the Lehigh County Historical Society and was a founding contributor to the Allentown Public Library. Bernice Browne was devoted to her church and extremely passionate for the virtues of a quality education consistently emphasizing that value to her children. Accordingly, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Saint Thomas More School, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103.

Services: Funeral Mass 12:00PM Saturday in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Ave., Allentown. Call 10:00AM to 12:00PM Saturday in the church.
