Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Soltys

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Soltys of 975 Wedgewood Road, Bethlehem, died in her home on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the age of 83. Betty was born April 22, 1939 in LaSalle, Illinois, the third daughter of Philip and Sara (Greene) Groll who moved to Allentown, PA when Betty was 10 years old. She graduated from Allentown Central Catholic High School in 1957 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1961 from Georgetown University. She also studied for a Master’s Degree in Economics at Lehigh University and throughout her life demonstrated a strong interest in a wide range of subjects, particularly the sciences. She was an avid reader and loved to travel especially taking ocean cruises to Europe and Central America. After graduating from Georgetown University, Betty was hired by PPL as a Methods Accountant in its Accounting Department. She married Michael P. Soltys in 1964 and was the mother of a son, Andrew Soltys. She later worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Career Services Office of Lehigh University. Betty was also active in her community and for 13 years served on Hanover Township’s Park and Recreation Advisory Board, five years as its Chairperson. She was a member of the American Association for University Women, did volunteer work for Children’s Counseling Services of Allentown and was a fund raiser for Bethlehem Catholic High School’s athletic program. Betty enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, bicycling, swimming and playing tennis. One of her greatest pleasures was planning the educational and vacation activities of her two grandchildren, Drew Michael and Emma Claire Soltys. Betty had a wonderful spirit, loved helping those less fortunate and demonstrated a great desire to make each day the best day possible. Her many friends of all ages are a testament to her long, beautiful life. Survivors: She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Michael; son, Andrew Soltys, his wife, Megan, and grandchildren, Drew Michael, and Emma Claire of Warrington, PA. Funeral Services: Calling at 9:15 a.m. followed by services at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 1601 W. Hamilton St., Allentown, PA 18102. Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery, Allentown.
