Eugene J. Sheedy DDS

Eugene J. Sheedy, DDS, 79, of South Whitehall Township, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026, at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was the beloved husband of Leonor M. (Rodriguez) Sheedy, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Alexandra L. Sheedy-Rodriguez, Esq., of Miami, Florida. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Eugene was the son of the late Dr. John J. Sheedy and Mary Agnes (McGee) Sheedy. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Plainfield High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Marian University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Georgetown University. Eugene proudly served his country as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he practiced dentistry in Boston, Massachusetts, where he also served as a clinical professor at Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He later established his dental practice in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he faithfully served generations of patients for more than 40 years and remained actively practicing until his passing. Dedicated to his profession and community, Eugene volunteered for many years at the Muhlenberg Hospital Dental Clinic and provided dental examinations for children through his work with the Bethlehem Area School District. He was a member of the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, and the Fleet Reserve Association. He was also a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown. A proud American, Eugene cherished his family's deep roots in the Lehigh Valley and their long tradition of military service. Family history recounts that his ancestors helped conceal the Liberty Bell during the American Revolution, while his father and uncles served their nation during World War II as members of the Medical Corps and as paratroopers. Outside of dentistry, Eugene enjoyed golf and celebrated one of the sport's rarest achievements: a hole-in-one at Saw Mill Golf Course. Above all, he will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, steady presence, and willingness to help anyone in need. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown. A calling hour will be held in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abandoned Pet Rescue of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the no-kill shelter where his beloved grand-dogs were rescued from. Those who knew "Gene-o" knew a man who would give the shirt off his back to help a stranger and who embraced life wholeheartedly. The family asks that you honor his memory by doing something kind for a stranger—and something kind for yourself.
