Marie T. Gallagher

Marie Teresa Gallagher, nee Clark, age 84 of Allentown, PA passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday June 14th 2022, surrounded by her family. Marie was born November 3, 1937 in Atlantic City, NJ, to John and Teresa Clark. She was raised in Ventnor, NJ where she attended St. James school followed by Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City. After high school she worked for the Atlantic City Electric Co. until her marriage at age 23 to Hugh S Gallagher, MD and during her years as a Navy wife she lived in Great Lakes IL, Newport RI, Philadelphia PA, Bremerton WA and back to the Philadelphia area, eventually settling in Allentown with her husband and children. For Marie, the sun rose and set over the Jersey shore where she enjoyed visits from family and friends. She spent most of her life in service to others. She was a true nurturer to her children, a devoted “Grandmom” and the most loyal life partner Hugh could have ever hoped to find. She was also an award winning angler and dance partner. In the rare moments when she wasn’t taking care of her family, you might find her playing tennis, walking, golfing, or biking the rail trails, usually with her husband. Survivors include her spouse of almost 62 years Dr. Hugh S. Gallagher, a retired cardiologist; her six children, Hugh of Allentown, Jack (Carolyn) of Mesa, AZ, Michael (Theresa) of Pittsburgh, PA, Teresa Grant (Michael) of Ivyland, PA, Marie (Harvey) of Evanston IL, and Patrick (Katie) of West Chester, PA; her 12 grandchildren Connor, Dylan, Colleen, Rowan, MaryKate, Hugh, Jack, Grace, Clare, Harvey, Nora and Edward; and her sister Clare Berenato. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Teresa Cronin, her brothers John and Thomas, and her grandson Liam. A visitation will be from 6-8pm Friday 6/24 at the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, 1707 New Rd. (Rt.9) Linwood, NJ. The funeral Mass will be at 11:00am Saturday 6/25 at the Maris Stella Church of St. Brendan the Navigator Parish, 252 50th St. Avalon, NJ. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Clermont. Her husband welcomes any memorial donations to Students for Life.
