Richard A. Bernecker

Richard A. Bernecker, 87, of Allentown, passed away the morning of October 12, 2022 at Heather Glen Senior Living, Allentown with his daughter and family by his side. He was the loving husband of the late Gloria M. (Rothenberger) Bernecker. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Frederick H. Bernecker, Sr. and Theresa (Mirth) Bernecker. Richard was a 1954 graduate of Allentown High School where he met his future wife. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. After serving, he worked in the 5C Plant at Mack Trucks in Allentown and Macungie for many years before retiring. Afterward he drove the shuttle bus at Air Products to keep busy. After his daughter married and had children he became a loving “Pop-Pop” to Kailen and Garrett. He was very proud of his grandchildren and attended many of their extracurricular activities with his late wife Gloria. Richard, known as “Lefty”, earlier in his life and then again lovingly to his friends at Heather Glen was an avid hunter and fisherman. It would bring a big smile to his face and sometimes laughter when they called him this. He was well known for his baseball cap collection which he wore each day and would take pride in showing them off to everyone who would comment, which were many. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at “Hardly Able” cabin in Greentown, PA. He enjoyed telling stories and sharing photos of the deer and bear which visited and which they hunted there. He had many fond memories of “Hardly Able” as a hunting cabin and family vacation spot as well. After a long day, he could be found at the Alburtis Rod & Gun Club, Macungie VFW, or the Legion (where he had memberships for many years) having a beer with his friends or hot dog with his late brother, Fred. Survivors: Daughter, Michele K. wife of Brian D. Moyer of Lenhartsville; grandchildren, Kailen M. Moyer and Garrett B. Moyer, both of Lenhartsville; brother-In-law, Warren Rothenberger of Whitehall; sister-in-law; Betty Frances Bernecker of Macungie, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a Brother, Frederick H. Bernecker, Jr. Services: Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 18th in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th & Hamilton Sts., Allentown. Livestreaming will be available on their website at www.jsburkholder.com. Calling hour 10 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to join the family afterward Tuesday at the Macungie VFW to celebrate Richard’s life with fellowship and remembrance.
