John Clayton "Clay" Smith

John Clayton “Clay” Smith, 77, of Lower Macungie Twp., passed away surrounded by loved ones on August 31, 2020 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp. He was a loving husband to Janet R. (Davis) Smith with whom he celebrated 40 years of marriage on August 29th, and a devoted father, grandfather, and brother. Clay ran his own non-profit company, dedicating his professional life to helping others. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late William and Katherine (Brady) Smith. Clay was beloved and deeply loved his family, friends, and God. He had a passion for life, living every day with positivity and optimism no matter what challenges were presented to him. Through his non-profit work with Community Partners 4Kids, Clay dedicated his life and passion towards the safety of children. He was a founding member of the Christian network group Believers in Business and an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Lower Macungie Township. Clay will be remembered for his ardent faith, his devotion to his family and friends, his quick wit, and his kind and compassionate spirit. Survivors: Wife: Janet R. Smith, Children: Justin Smith and his wife Elizabeth, Nicole Broome and her husband Michael, Kimberly Clemente and her husband Andrew, John Clayton Smith, Jr. and his wife Tricia, Natalie Walchonski and her husband Michael, and Kevin Smith and his wife Megan, Sisters: Kay wife of Jim Horan and Maureen MacCoy wife of Steve, Brother: Joe Smith and his wife Pat, and 9 Grandchildren. A celebration of Clay’s eternal life will be held on Thursday, September 3rd at Longswamp Bed and Breakfast 1605 State St. Mertztown, PA. A calling hour open to all family and friends will be held from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M. followed by a private service for family.
