Judith Ann Layton

June 5, 2022

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, Judith Ann Layton passed away in the Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania. She was in for medical rehabilitation, and it was unexpected. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Layton who died in 1999 and a brother Edward F. Wirth Jr. who died in 2007. Judy found a second chance at love with her fiancé John L. Deesing, Sr. of Mahanoy City, who will miss her terribly. Born April 6, 1943, in Allentown, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Mary K. (Steinhofer) Wirth. Judith was a 1963 graduate of Louis E. Dieruff High School, Allentown. She was a hard worker and worked several jobs. During high school, Judy was a retail salesclerk at Zollinger-Harned Department Store, a waitress at local restaurants and after graduation she was employed at General Electric. She worked at General Electric for 22 years starting on the assembly line before transferring to office work. Judy was very social and affectionately known as the “Social Butterfly” by her co-workers. Judy was also close with her great-nieces Jessalyn and Riley, who just called her “Aunt Judy.” Judy loved traveling, bowling and dancing. Judy, my sister, a void is in my heart until we meet again in everlasting life. In addition to John, she is survived by her sisters, Evelyn and husband Harold Wolfer, Renae and husband Guy Ritchie, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada and her sister-in-law, Linda Wirth. Judy was Godmother to both her nieces, Loreen and husband, William Aquilino and Cindy and husband, James Genetti, great-nieces, Jessalyn and Riley Aquilino and great-nephews, Nathan and Kevin Genetti. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
