Beloved Margaret -eggy -Mary Ambrose (Young) aged 101 passed from this Earth on Sunday December 16th, 2018 while at home at Country Meadows in Bethlehem, PA. She was born at the family farmhouse in Old Zionsville, PA in 1917 to parents Ella Mae Frey Young (Jacoby) of Bath and Calvin William Young of Treichlers. She was predeceased by her parents and her 8 brothers and sisters. Her days on her family's 80 acre farm were some of the happiest times of her life. She moved to Allentown while still a child and although she and her family moved from place to place while she was young, she lived much of her life there. When she first went to school her sister and she only spoke Dutch and they were sent home until they could learn how to speak English. She married Vernon William Allen Hilbert when she was 18 and they had three children together. They divorced in 1945. She and the late Master Sergeant Anthony Ambrose were happily married for over 55 years. They wed March 26th, 1949 in a civil ceremony by a Justice of the Peace in Lehigh County, PA. They had one child together. She had four children: The late Vernon -keeter- William Allen Hilbert Jr., Elaine Estella Hosford (Hilbert), Charles -hic- Lewis Hilbert and the late Donna Louise Kleckner (Ambrose). She also has 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Peggy had a great sense of humor and took great pleasure in innocent practical jokes such as tying plastic vegetables on the neighbor's vegetable plants and watering the plastic houseplants with an empty watering can. She considered herself a -eople person-. She sang and played piano and loved music. She enjoyed baking and was always happy to have someone to feed. She especially adored children. She spent 25 years happily employed at Hess's Brothers on Hamilton Street in Allentown. She believed it is not necessary to go to a church to be a good Christian. She felt that one should trust their conscience and that if everyone lived by the 10 commandments what a beautiful world we would live in. One of her favorite quotes was based upon The Optimists Creed. Her version was -s you travel through life, no matter your goal, keep your eyes on the doughnut and not the hole.- She was laid to rest in a private ceremony of close family and friends at Grandview Cemetery in Allentown, PA on Friday December 21st, 2018.
