D. Richard Hersh

D. Richard Hersh, 84, of Salisbury Township, Allentown, PA, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital while surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Kathryn J. “Kathy” Hersh. They were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on August 30th. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late George W. Hersh, Jr. and Clara C. (Smale) Hersh. A 1956 graduate of the Perkiomen School, Pennsburg; Richard continued his education at Lafayette College graduating in 1960. A licensed realtor, he previously owned and operated D. R. Hersh Realty for several years and was Quality Control Manager for the former Lehigh Engineering Company, Bethlehem. He and his family formerly co-owned and operated Jordan Lanes, Whitehall. Richard ended his career at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township retiring in 2000 after 10 years of service. Never one to sit still, after retiring, became a driver for Cedar Crest College, Rothrock Motors and the Kelly Automotive Group. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Allentown. A 32nd Degree Mason, Richard was a member of Greenleaf Lodge and Lehigh Consistory Valley of Allentown. He was a member of the former Dorneyville Lion’s Club. Richard was a devoted husband and father. He treasured the times spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, including skippering many family cruises on the Chesapeake with his boat “The Kathy J”. Survivors: Wife; daughter, Sandra wife of Mark Wojcicki of Adamstown, PA; sons, Daniel R. Hersh, Jr. and his wife Denise of Allentown, John C. Hersh and his wife Donna of Whitehall; Sister-In-Law: Elaine Hersh of Allentown; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 2 nieces; and a nephew. He was preceded in death by a brother; George W. Hersh III. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 11 A.M. in the J.S. Burkholder Funeral Home, 16th and Hamilton Sts. Allentown. A calling hour will be held on Thursday, from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Lehigh Valley Hospice 1627 W.
