Jeanne "Jan" M. Thompson

Jeanne “Jan” M. Thompson, 91, of Macungie, PA, passed away peacefully at her home on January 29, 2026. She was the wife of Michael “Mike” J. Thompson, who had died just 42 days earlier, on December 19, 2025. Married for nearly sixty-six years, Jan and Mike shared a lifelong partnership marked by devotion, tenderness, and deep mutual care. Born on August 21, 1934, in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Jan was the only child of the late Dr. Genebern J. McCully and Dr. Viola M. (Bast) McCully. She was baptized Catholic and educated at Lincoln High School in Manitowoc, followed by Mount Mary University in Milwaukee. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science degree, she began her professional life as a medical technologist in Milwaukee. After Jan and Mike married, Jan devoted her full time to raising their five children. Jan was, above all else, devoted to her family. She was selfless, sometimes to a fault, and took great pride in caring for those she loved. She described herself as a “nourisher,” and no word better captured her spirit. Jan showed her love through thoughtful planning, quiet attentiveness, and an unwavering commitment to her family's well-being. Food was her language of love, not simply in her skill as a cook, but in the intention behind every meal. She planned carefully, cooked tirelessly, and ensured that everyone felt cared for and sustained. A lifelong animal lover, Jan shared her home with many beloved dogs over the years. She also extended her kindness to the animals her children occasionally brought home, welcoming each with patience and care. Her willingness to do so reflected the same open-hearted generosity she showed in every part of her life. All five of her children feel profoundly blessed to have been raised by her. She created a home defined by stability, generosity, and unconditional love, and her influence continues through her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy is one of quiet sacrifice, steady presence, and a life devoted to others. Jan was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Allentown. She is survived by her sons and daughters William G. Thompson III and his wife Nicki of Solana Beach, CA; Maura Hagarty and her husband Mike of Winona, MN; Guinevere T. Hughes and her husband Toby of Allentown; Michael P. Thompson and his wife Kathy O’Brien of Allentown; Timothy C. Thompson and his wife Jennifer of Baltimore, MD; as well as her grandchildren Ian, Ruth, Adrienne, Patricia, Connor, Tyler, John, and Emersen, and eight great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1040 Flexer Avenue, Allentown. A calling period will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jan’s memory to Catholic Relief Services.
