Lois B. Miller

Lois B. Miller, 81, of Allentown and Key Colony Beach, FL., died peacefully surrounded by her family on April 18, 2021 in her home. She was the loving wife of the late Peter S. Miller. Born in Allentown on June 7, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. Brong, and Lois (Hildt) Brong Marshall. Lois worked as a dedicated and passionate educator of music and literature for many years, graduating from Lebanon Valley College in 1961 with a BS in Music Education. She was an accomplished musician as well as a lifelong supporter of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra (ASO). Continuing the Miller family legacy, she served on the ASO board of directors as an active member (1985-1997) and president (1990-1995). She helped to save the concert hall from being sold in the mid 1980’s, personally sponsored the Music Director/Conductor for the last ten years, and helped to fund the remodeling of Miller Symphony Hall over the last thirteen years. Lois was always willing to lend a hand, she even addressed the ASO ball invitations by hand for over 28 years. Outside of the ASO she graciously contributed to the renovation of Miller Chapel at Lebanon Valley College and established the Lois Brong Miller Music Education Scholarship in 2003. In addition to her charitable work she was an avid reader, gardener, artist, and cook. She was a lifelong member of the Fortnightly Club, The Huguenot Society of America, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Diane Wittry, the Music Director and Conductor of the Allentown Symphony Orchestra eloquently said: “Lois was a strong leader who was not afraid to make the tough decisions, organized, well spoken, always professional and classy, a good listener, and a very dear and caring friend”. Lois will be deeply missed by her family and many friends both near and far, but her spirit and generosity will continue to support music in the Allentown area for many years to come. Survivors: Daughter: Kirsten L.M. Neptun and her husband Steven of Barrington, IL, Son: Erik R. Miller of Redondo Beach, CA and Grandchildren: Konrad Peter and Sigrid Alexandra Neptun and Claire Francine Miller. Nephews Robert E. Brong III of Lake Mary, FL and Kevin E. Brong of Ocoee, FL.
